My Tablet Speaks 4 Me! Project
 
The project is being realized in colloboration of Tohum Autism Foundation with USA Ankara Embassy.
 
The main aim of the project is to improve the education quality of children with autism in Turkey via technology use. Aware of the new turn in our century, understanding technology thoroughly and introducing it into current Turkish education system is the aim of the planned efforts. The use of new technology, such as an electronic tablet, will be introduced as a method of teaching to the students with autism and their teachers and parents. Within the scope of the project, the first Turkish applications for kids with autism will be created. The pilot schools for the project are: Tohum Autism Foundation Special Education School and Anadolu University Research Institute for Disabled.
 
Starting workshops were conducted with participation of PhD candidate Micah Eckhardt (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), who is developing studies on technology usage in kids with autism's education. Each workshop continued for two days, the first one was organized in Eskisehir with experts from Anadolu University Research Institute for Disabled, and the second one involved Tohum Autism Foundation Special Education School experts. Other participants on the workshops were application developers, IT associations and lecturers from the department of Computer Engineering in Istanbul Tecnhical University.
 
My tablet speaks for me project will last a year including start-up workshops, follow-up workshops, applications to be made with students and parents in pilot schools, collection of data and reporting. As a result, the first tablet application specially designed for kids with autism will be completed and presented as a pioneer in Turkish applications
